October Favorites

New England brought about some beautiful, autumnal days this month then shocked us with a wintery blizzard this weekend, making me glad I’ve spent the month preparing to be cozy! I’m excited to share my own personal favorites from the month below…

At Home

I just updated our bedroom with these organic cotton sateen sheets (shown above) and it feels like we are vacationing at a luxury resort every time we get in bed. I’ve honestly loved linen sheets for so long, but these feel like a nice change for cooler months!

I’ve been burning this new favorite soy candle scent each evening, which is both robust and relaxing. And from one of my favorite candle makers!

And these lampshades from Denmark have given new life to a couple of our lamps: I got the cream empire option for our living room and the black traditional shade for a lamp in our bedroom and I am in love!

Wearing

Oversized, cozy sweaters are my staple of the season (as discussed here), and this cashmere cardigan was worth the splurge…I wear it multiple times each week!

Despite making fun of them for over a decade now, I caved and bought this pair of Uggs. Look, in my defense, they are fully practical for New England winters. And I blame the trash-storm that is 2020 for this. I’m not sorry!

These simple J. Crew cashmere tops have been another go-to each morning. Flattering, cozy, and not too heavy. Go two sizes up for a nice oversized fit. I grabbed two!

Reading

Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America, which is a super informative read on just how deep-seated racism is.

For much-needed levity, I also quickly read Jerry Seinfeld’s Is This Anything earlier this month. I’m betting the audio version of this is HILARIOUS.

I’m also thumbing through the much anticipated shelter book Made for Living which doesn’t disappoint and is currently a crazy good price!

Watching

Transparent (critically acclaimed for good reason with THE best soundtrack). I realized I actually never watched the last two seasons, so I have some catching up to do!

The Mindy Project. I’ve rewatched this so many times and feel strongly that this show never got the following it deserved. The first two seasons in particular are my favorite!

Cooking

This sweet potato chowder is such a filling soup that feels perfectly autumnal…it’s become an instant favorite. I shifted to a pescatarian diet at the beginning of COVID (so I no longer eat meat), and this recipe was super easy to adapt. I simply omitted the pancetta and it was still absolutely delish!

These sheet pan shrimp fajitas were crazy easy and so yummy!
