Summer Classic: Aperol Spritz

Ah, my official warm-weather cocktail: the Aperol Spritz. Fruity, bittersweet, and sparkling, this is my summer go-to. They are simple to make at home, which I do often, and I was surprised by how many of you were asking for the recipe!

I don’t really stray from the classic recipe, but this one is easy to tweak proportions on based on preference. While the original recipe calls for equal parts Aperol to prosecco, I go a little lighter on the liquor portion. You’ll need the following:

APEROL SPRITZ

  • Prosecco or champagne (don’t go too bottom shelf on this to avoid one that is too sugary — and for a champagne, you’ll want to go with an extra dry brut)
  • Aperol liquor
  • Club soda
  • Ripe orange

Directions:

  1. Fill your wine glass with ice
  2. Pour about 1/4 to 1/3 of the wine glass with Aperol spirit
  3. Pour your prosecco / champagne nearly to the top (about 2/3rds of the glass)
  4. Add a splash of club soda (I like to get these in small cans so they are extra carbonated and fresh with each glass!)
  5. Squeeze in a slice of orange and drop the rind in
  6. Mix all together and enjoy!

That’s it: easy peasy! Your homework is to immediately go make one (or a few) and enjoy. This beautiful Memorial Day weekend is the perfect occasion. Cheers!
